Clancy Street Boys Year: 1943 Plot: This comedy film, part of The East Side Kids series, centers on gang leader Muggs McGinnis, whose mother, Molly, is distraught after receiving a letter. It turns out Muggs' late father had long ago bragged to his wealthy Texas rancher friend, "Uncle" Pete Monahan, that he had seven children instead of just one. Since then, the poor McGinnis family has been receiving a birthday check for each non-existent child. Now, Uncle Pete and his daughter, Judy, are coming to New York for a visit, and Molly is terrified the truth will be exposed. To save his mother from embarrassment and poverty, Muggs recruits the entire East Side Kids gang to pose as his six non-existent siblings. The ruse involves gang member Glimpy dressing in drag as "Annabelle," a sister, and Scruno pretending to be an adopted brother. The plan is thrown into jeopardy when a local mobster finds out about the deception and threatens to expose Muggs unless he gets what he wants, leading to a kidnapping plot that the East Side Kids—with help from a rival gang—must solve.
