"Despiser" 2001 follows Gordon Hauge, an artist whose life takes a turn for the worse when he loses his job and his wife leaves him. Things go from bad to bizarre when he crashes his car and finds himself in Purgatory. This afterlife is a strange place where he's immediately attacked by fanatic Shadowmen and enslaved souls called Ragmen.
Gordon is rescued by a quirky group of freedom fighters from different historical periods, all of whom died making noble sacrifices. Reluctantly, he joins their cause and embarks on a surreal and wild adventure through the hellish landscapes of Purgatory. Their mission is to battle the Despiser, a malevolent being ruling this godless realm. Facing shifting realities, annoying monsters, and intense car chases over lava oceans, their journey leads to a final showdown to save humanity.
