Vice (2015)
In a near-future resort called VICE, lifelike androids cater to human desires, allowing guests to live out their darkest fantasies without consequence. But when one of the synthetic hosts gains sentience and escapes, the line between man and machine begins to blur — and the creators must face the fallout of their own unethical playground.
Vice is one of those movies that makes you think, even as it’s delivering a full-on action ride. Set in a futuristic world where people can live out their wildest fantasies in a hyper-realistic amusement park, the premise is pretty intriguing. The park is populated by robots, and things get complicated when one of them, played by Thomas Jane, starts to remember things and break free from the cycle. It’s like Westworld meets a high-stakes action movie, with a touch of moral questioning about the nature of humanity. Bruce Willis and Thomas Jane both play intense, morally conflicted characters, and you can feel the weight of their struggles as they fight to break free from the systems they’re trapped in. It’s not a perfect film, and the pacing can feel a little uneven at times, but if you’re into action with a thought-provoking twist, Vice is definitely worth a watch. It’s an interesting exploration of what happens when technology starts blurring the lines between right and wrong, reality and fantasy. If you’re into futuristic thrillers that explore human nature with a healthy dose of action, Vice is a solid pick, even if it’s a bit messy at times.
