Lady in the Death House (1944)
Plot: The film is a low-budget, fast-paced film noir/crime drama. A young woman named Mary Kirk Logan is convicted and sentenced to the electric chair for the murder of a blackmailer who was threatening her family. The film's suspense is heightened by a cruel twist of fate: her fiancé, Dr. Dwight 'Brad' Bradford, is a research scientist who reluctantly works as the state's executioner to finance his experiments on reviving dead tissue. Convinced of Mary's innocence, a famous criminologist, Charles Finch, races against the clock to find the real killer before Mary walks the "last mile" and her fiancé is forced to pull the switch on the woman he loves. The climax involves a desperate scramble to get the governor's attention to halt the execution before it's too late.
