"Les Filles du Roi" 2023 focuses on the year 1665 in "New France" (present-day Montreal), where the lives of young Mohawk siblings Kateri and Jean-Baptiste are disrupted by the arrival of "Les Filles du Roi" (The King's Daughters). These young French women were sent to the new colony to marry and have children. Kateri and Jean-Baptiste forge an unlikely relationship with one of these young women, Marie-Jean Lespérance, whose dream of a new life is far more complicated than she imagined. Over the course of a year, Mohawk, French, and English journeys collide, setting the stage for the Canada known today. The film is adapted from an award-winning musical and features dialogue and songs in English, French, and Kanien'kéha (Mohawk).
