Private Snuffy Smith (1942)
Plot: Snuffy Smith is a pint-sized, fiercely independent moonshiner from the Appalachian hills of Hootin' Holler. Tired of constantly dodging "revenooers" (federal agents) and lured by the promise of free clothes, gold buttons, and a steady paycheck, Snuffy decides to enlist in the U.S. Army. Much to his dismay, he discovers that his new First Sergeant is none other than Ed Cooper—the very revenue agent who has been trying to bust Snuffy’s still for years. The situation becomes even more chaotic when Snuffy’s friend, Don, invents a secret military rangefinder that a group of "fifth columnist" spies attempts to steal. With the help of his wife Lowizie and his dog (who has accidentally been turned invisible by a batch of moonshine), Snuffy must protect the invention and prove that a hillbilly can be a hero.
