Sinful Cargo (1936)
Plot: Federal Agent Alan O'Connor is transferred to the Immigration and Naturalization Service to break up a dangerous ring smuggling Chinese illegal immigrants into the U.S. He teams up with a spunky newspaper reporter, Bobbie Reynolds, and her clumsy comedy-relief photographer. Their investigation focuses on a small-time movie production company, "Globe Productions," whose director and producer are suspected of being the masterminds of the smuggling operation. The trio discovers that the fake film production is a front: Chinese theatrical extras are brought to a California Channel Island, and then swapped with the same number of actual illegal immigrants to be smuggled back onto the mainland. O'Connor and Reynolds work to uncover the complete scheme and bring the criminals to justice. The film was originally released as Yellow Cargo and re-released in 1947 as Sinful Cargo.
