Son of the Navy
Year: 1940
Plot: An orphan boy named Tommy runs away from the orphanage, determined to find a new mother and father. He latches onto Chief Gunners Mate Mike Malone, a sailor racing to hitchhike back to his ship at Naval Base San Diego. Tommy pretends Mike is his father to help them get a ride, and a kind woman named Steve Moore, who is headed to the base to see her father, picks them up. The boy's ruse causes trouble for the sailor, especially when Steve misunderstands the situation and spreads the word that Mike is a runaway father abandoning his child. The comedy-drama follows the misadventures of the three characters as the sailor and the woman grow closer while struggling to deal with the mischievous but endearing orphan.
