The Bashful Bachelor (1942)
Plot: Small-town store owner Lum Edwards is annoyed because his partner, Abner Peabody, in the Pine Ridge Jot-'em-Down general store, has traded their delivery car for a racehorse. Lum also struggles with being too timid to propose to the woman he loves, Geraldine. In an attempt to impress her, he devises a fake "rescue" mission with Abner, which nearly gets them both killed. After a second, more successful attempt, Lum finally writes a proposal note, but Abner mistakenly delivers it to the eagerly-waiting Widder Abernathy. This throws Lum into a new round of trouble until the Widder's long-disappeared husband is found by the town sheriff. The film is the second of seven based on the popular Lum and Abner radio series.
