The Big Show-Off (1945)
Plot: Sandy Elliott is a shy, unassuming nightclub pianist who is desperately in love with June Mayfield, the beautiful and popular band vocalist at the same club. June, however, is a big fan of professional wrestling and prefers men who are tough and exciting. To help foster a romance, the club owner, Joe Bagley, concocts a plan: he tells June that the mild-mannered Sandy is secretly "The Devil," a mysterious, professional masked wrestler who has just achieved championship status. Sandy reluctantly plays along with the charade. The ruse gets complicated when the real "Devil" breaks his leg, forcing Sandy to pretend he is injured as well to maintain his cover. The situation spirals into further comic confusion when the real wrestler makes a public announcement that threatens to expose Sandy's true identity to June.
