The Rage of Paris (1938)
Plot: Nicole de Cortillon, a beautiful but penniless French émigré in New York, is facing eviction. Her friend Gloria and Mike, a hotel maître d', convince her to use her charms to "snare" a rich husband as a solution to their financial woes, using Mike's savings to establish Nicole in a ritzy hotel suite. The target is millionaire Bill Duncan, whom Nicole quickly manages to enchant. However, Bill's best friend, Jim Trevor, who had a memorable, mistaken first encounter with Nicole, suspects her of being a gold-digger and is determined to expose her scheme, though his efforts lead to a romantic entanglement with Nicole instead.
