The Viking (1931)
Plot: The film is an adventure story set on the coast of Newfoundland centered on the dangerous lives of seal hunters. A rivalry flares up between two local men, Jed Nelson, a seal hunter, and Luke Oarum, who is considered a "jinx" or bringer of bad luck. Jed, who is possessive of his girlfriend Mary Joe, goads Luke into joining a perilous Arctic sealing expedition aboard the ship The Viking to keep him away from her. During the hunt on the ice floes, Jed and Luke become separated from the main crew and are abandoned. With Jed nearly blinded by snow and ready to give up, Luke forces them to keep going, leading them back to safety, finally shedding his reputation as a jinx and winning the respect of the community and the love of Mary Joe.
