When a Man's a Man (1935)
Plot: Larry Knight, an aimless Easterner who has quickly squandered his inheritance, heads West on a whim. During a stopover, he impulsively tries to ride a bucking bronco and is immediately drawn to the rugged ranch life. He soon takes a job as a hand at the Cross Triangle ranch, which is owned by Kitty Baldwin and her father. The ranch is facing ruin due to a drought caused by a rival rancher, Nick Cambert, who has secretly caused a landslide to divert the local water supply. Larry uses his ingenuity and engineering knowledge to help the Baldwins get their water back, developing a risky plan to use dynamite to restore the flow. While working, Larry falls for Kitty, creating a love triangle with the ranch's jealous foreman, Phil Acton. The climax involves Larry and Phil joining forces to fight Cambert, rescue Kitty from a tunnel cave-in, and successfully divert the water back to the Cross Triangle. Larry proves he has found purpose and love in the West.
