He was a cinematographer and director, known for Cyrano von Bergerac (1990), Camille Claudel (1988) and Dites-lui que je l'aime (1977). He was married to Renée Baudin and Irina Charitonoff. He died on July 4, 2019 in Arles, Bouches-du-Rhône, France.
