Rollie Totheroh worked as cinematographer on Charles Chaplin's movies for over 30 years, right from the earliest shorts in 1915 to Monsieur Verdoux - Der Frauenmörder von Paris (1947), including all of Chaplin's masterpieces: Der Vagabund und das Kind (1921), Goldrausch (1925), Lichter der Großstadt (1931), Moderne Zeiten (1936) and Der große Diktator (1940). Totheroh was the man with whom Chaplin had the longest working relationship, other than his brother Syd Chaplin.
