He was educated at the University of Chicago, and worked as a reporter
for the Chicago Tribune, Daily News, and Examiner. His books include
"3,000 Miles Away", "Molly And I", "Five Fridays", "Help Yourself to
Happiness", "For Valor", "King's Crew", and "The Secret Attic". He
composed the stage scores for "The Time, The Place, and the Girl", "The
Girl Question", "A Stubborn Cinderella", "The Goddess of Liberty", and
"The Price of Tonight". His chief musical collaborators included Joe
Howard, Harold Orlob and Will Hough. His song credits include "I Don't
Like Your Family", "Blow The Smoke Away", "What's the Use of Dreaming",
"When You First Kiss the Last Girl You Love", "Honeymoon", "Be Sweet to
Me, Kid", "I Wonder Who's Kissing Her Now", "Tonight Will Never Come
Again", and "Cross Your Heart".
