Shmuel Yosef Agnon was born on July 17, 1888 in Buczacz, Galicia, Austria-Hungary [now Buchach, Ukraine]. He was a writer, known for Shabbat Hamalka (1965), Directions (1960) and BeDmeyi Yameha (2010). He was married to Esther Marx. He died on February 17, 1970 in Tel Aviv, Israel.
