American motion picture and television costumer. In the 1940s, Berne
worked in the maintenance department of Twentieth Century Fox, but
found employment in the studio's wardrobe department. He spent much of
his career working for Universal Studios and Columbia Pictures, though
he was employed by every studio at one time or another. He spent
several years as personal wardrobe man to George Reeves on Superman - Retter in der Not (1952). Following
several years of ill-health from heart disease, he retired in 1980 and
died in 1983 at 67.
