Megan Blake is an actor, writer, producer and The Pet Lifestyle Coach.
Whether it's Super Smiley, her beloved rescue turned "spokesdog"
smiling alongside her to promote pet adoption, Tout Suite the Travel
Kitty, the discarded feral who has traveled over 130,000 miles with
Megan educating people on pet travel, or one of the many horses she's
saved from slaughter, there's no denying that Megan is succeeding in
her mission to help people integrate pets into their lives and to show
these animals as teachers and healers.
She's the resident Pet Expert and host on PBS's Emmy-Award winning
series, Animal Attractions TV, on which she was also segment producer
and writer. The series won an Honorary Mention at the Humane Society of
the United States' prestigious Genesis Awards. She also appeared on
Oprah's Network, OWN, as The Pet Lifestyle Coach to Ryan O'Neal on his
reality series, The O'Neals. Here she brings Ryan two Best Friends dogs
to choose from and helps him integrate Mozart into his home. Megan also
appears in the media as a pet product "trendologist," pet expert and
adoption advocate.
Megan has turned her national "Happy Campaign" tour of the Super Smiley
Flash Mob 4 Pet Adoption into a Film Festival movement. Inspired by her
mentor mutt, Smiley, she has created the film Super Smiley Flash Mob -
A Dogumentary which after receiving a special invitation by the
Awareness Film Festival in LA for its world premier, it Won The
Visionary Award. Within a week, it was screening at World Fest in Los
Angeles, with more invitations pending.
What's "A Super Smiley Adventure?" It's Megan's new radio show, which
recently won an Honorary Mention at the prestigious Genesis Awards.
Airing on Pet Life Radio, the world's largest Pet Radio Network, Megan
has interviewed pet advocates like Academy Award Nominee James
Cromwell, Golden Globe Nominee, Wendie Malick, The CEO of the Humane
Society of the Untied States, Wayne Pacelle and the starring cast
(including Jack Russell, Uggie) of the Academy Award Winning Film, The
Artist. Inspired by her spokes-dog, Super Smiley, the show explores
real life travels as well as inner journeys where our animals lead.
Megan believes that if we are open to it, animals will always lead us
on amazing adventures and to great journeys of inner discovery. While
keeping the charm that defines this Super Smiley Adventure, Megan and
Smiley use the show to advocate for serious issues like pet adoption,
proper stewardship and avoiding cruelty.
Megan's column appears in the critically acclaimed and Genesis Awards
recognized Dog's Life Magazine, and includes subjects close to Megan's
heart: Earth Friendly Grooming, Indoor Fun for Fido, Safe Travel,
Grieving Pet Loss, and Dog Proofing Your Home.
Megan and Smiley are a National Spokes-Team for Toyota's Pet Safe
Initiative. They are a Therapy Dog Team for the prestigious Pet
Partners and a HOPE Crisis Response Team, which qualifies them to go
into disaster areas with HOPE and give comfort and assistance to those
affected. Megan guest lectures for the University of NC for their
Animal Assisted Therapy Certificate Program. She is the Official
Spokesperson for Pet Expo USA, the Celebrity Pet Ambassador for the
Wonder Pet Expo and has served as a spokes-person for many events like
LA's Operation Fitness, Jacksonville's Fur Ball and Beverly Hill's
Woofstock. She is a sought after pet expert in the media and celebrity
judge for numerous grooming and mutt contests from which many dogs are
adopted. She has hosted regional events for the Humane Society of the
US, volunteered at Best Friends' Dog Town, and is bringing Smiley's
Happy Campaign to the City of LA Shelters.
A frequent media go-to person for pets, Megan has been interviewed by
CNN, Forbes, The Washington Post, Woman's World, Parents Magazine, The
Los Angeles Times, Atlanta Journal Constitution, Better TV, Florida
Times Union, Atlanta Magazine, Yahoo News, ESPN.com, Paw Print, Cat
Fancy and many other national and regional outlets. Her story has
graced the covers of San Diego Pets, the homepage of Bestfriends.org,
and she bylined a requested piece for The Humane Society of the United
States that was featured on their website, as well as provided expert
commentary on important animal rights legislation for the Levine
Breaking News. She is also regularly a guest on dozens of radio and
television shows nationwide.
Megan has also worked with wolves to study their unspoken language and
to apply that intuitive understanding to educating pet owners on how to
better communicate with their own dogs.
Megan is an accomplished actress, playing in dozens of television
series and feature films alongside many of the biggest industry names
including Academy Award winner Elizabeth Taylor and Golden Globe
nominee Mark Harmon in The Sweet Bird of Youth, and Golden Globe
nominee Christina Ricci and Emmy winner Lisa Kudrow in The Opposite of
Sex. Her current film is Susie, based on the inspiring true story of
the dog who was burned and inspired Susie's Law for animal protection.
In Megan's Sci-Fi film, Eyeborgs and in the multiple award winning The
Magistical (in which Megan voices a little boy) she has the task of
saving the world! She is frequently seen at entertainment industry
soirees with Super Smiley, who to everyone's delight steals the
spotlight. She trained her three-legged dog, Spirit, to act in two
films, one in which Spirit graced the stage with the NY City Ballet,
and in the other she hopped alongside Golden Globe nominee David
Carradine.
True to her Southern roots, Megan sat on the Board of Directors of the
Greensboro Ballet in North Carolina, is a Magna Cum Laude graduate of
Georgia Tech, was a speech writer for the Gov. of GA, is a guest
speaker at Universities including the University of Richmond Law School
in VA & the University of NC, and she is a Former Miss Georgia.
Megan Blake lives with her husband Kim H. Swartz, two dogs, two horses and Travel
Kitty in Malibu, California.
