Richard Curtis was born in New Zealand but was educated At Harrow and Oxford where he got a First in English and met Rowan Atkinson with whom he got his big break at the BBC with the comedy series Not the Nine O'Clock News, He'd also met Helen Fielding, who became the creator. of Bridget Jones , at Oxford, Richard went on to co write Mr Bean and The Vicar of Dibley.. His first film script was for The Tall Guy (1989) and in 1997 he co wrote Bean, the film of the tv series. He's also co-founder and vice -chairman of Comic Relief.He wrote the Oscar nominated script for 1994's Four Weddings and a Funeral which was made for £3 million but grossed over £259 million that made his reputation. He lives with broadcaster Emma Freud and their two children in the Notting Hil area of London.
