António Ferreira debuted in Cannes 2000 at the Cinefondation official selection with his mid-length film Atmen unter Wasser (2000). His first feature Vergiss, was ich versprochen habe (2002) premiered in 2002 being one of the most successful Portuguese films that year. In 2010 directs Embargo (2010) an adaptation from the Nobel prize winner José Saramago. In 2018 releases Pedro e Inês (2018) the most seen Portuguese movie in cinemas that year. In 2023 releases A Bela América (2023), his fourth feature. Die Erinnerung an den Duft der Dinge (2025) is his most recent movie.
António Ferreira's movies have won several international prizes in festivals world wide and resonate with both audiences and critics. Together with the producer Tathiani Sacilotto, runs the company Persona Non Grata Pictures, sited in both Portugal and Brazil.
