Steven Fink started out early in pursuit of a career in the movies;
inspired by classic fantasy and sci-fi films such as
Sindbads siebente Reise (1958)
and later Krieg der Sterne (1977). By age 10,
he was making his own movies and experimenting with prosthetic makeups.
Steven's professional career in special effects makeup and propmaking
began at the latter part of 1986 while still attending high school as a
senior. The production was a local low-budget film called
Clownhouse (1989); the ill-fated
suspense thriller directed by convicted child-molester
Victor Salva. After that production
wrapped, Steven moved onto another local production in the San
Francisco bay area, the new
Gumby Adventures (1988). He
was able to further develop his skills as a designer, sculptor and
moldmaker; working on 99 episodes for the original Gumby creator,
Art Clokey. Fink eventually moved to Southern
California to work for the best names in the makeup effects industry
such as Rick Baker,
Stan Winston,
Rob Bottin,
Craig Reardon,
Steve Johnson and others. In the
late 1990s, Steven became a regular staff member of Optic Nerve Studios
and eventually effects coordinator for multiple shows, including
Buffy - Im Bann der Dämonen (1997)
and Angel: Jäger der Finsternis (1999). In fact, Steven
shares a crew EMMY award with Optic Nerve Studios for an episode of the
Akte X: Die unheimlichen Fälle des FBI (1993) in 1998 for
outstanding makeup.
After enjoying a successful career spanning 17 years and over 60 movies
and television shows, Steven Fink officially retired from the film
industry in 2003 to pursue private projects and a family life.
