Jan grew up in Streatham, South London and left school at 16 to be a ballet
dancer and trained at the Royal Ballet School and she danced with them
until she had to give it up due to a knee injury. She got a big break when she
was cast as Penny in the television comedy series Just Good Friends. She's
married to screenwriter Thomas Ellice having proposed to him on leap year and
they have 2 children.
