Dr. Tomaro is a jazz guitarist as well as a conductor. He has performed
extensively, both domestically and abroad, with his own ensemble, The
Robert Tomaro Quintet, and with several touring ensembles. He has
appeared in concert with artists such as Bill Evans, Stephane Grapelli,
and Charles Mingus and performed in the orchestras of the original
Broadway productions of numerous shows, including The Lion King, Tommy,
Barnum, Les Miserables, Evita, Dancin', and I Love My Wife.
Dr. Tomaro is a member of Kappa Delta Pi and Pi Kappa Lambda, the
national honor societies in education and music education, and a winner
of the New Jersey Council on the Arts Fellowship Award for Symphonic
Composition. He was also honored by the Academy of Television Arts and
Sciences for conducting the recording of the Emmy Award winning score
for the Los Angeles Marathon and in 2002 he was one of only eight
conductors chosen to study with world renowned conductor, Christoph
Eschenbach.
