Bengali independent filmmaker Soumadeep Dasgupta is a versatile artist who has worked in various creative fields. Starting his academic career as a Computer Engineer in 2019, he has since ventured into independent filmmaking, music, theatre, screenwriting, lyricism, editing, vocals, music composition, illustration, graphics design, voice-over artistry, and more. Dasgupta's artistic endeavours often delve into the darker aspects of life while seeking light and exploring themes of justice, transformation, and healing.

He is the founder and director of 'KOTHOK INDEPENDENT FILM & ARTS,' a Bengali Independent Arts Production hub based in Kolkata, specifically located in New Barrackpore. The company originated as an independent art club during his time as a school student.

Dasgupta's musical journey began in 2009-10 when he was the lead member of his school classroom band called "ROCKING KHANDATTA." The band composed parody songs and original compositions that criticized the education system. In 2015-16, he formed his first official band, "Knights Of Octave," with original compositions. Subsequently, he worked on several other musical projects, including 'RAJKONNE,' 'OBHISHAP,' '24×7,' 'POROJIBI PREM,' 'JOKHON SOB SESH,' 'VOGOBAN E VUT,' 'CHERE E JODI JABI CHOLE,' 'JUDDHO BIROTI,' 'APON DHARAY DHOMMO CHOLE,' 'AJ PURNIMAY,' 'PORIJAI PAKHI DER GAN,' and many more, which gained popularity within the local community. Due to budget constraints, they were unable to release many of their well-received compositions.

In 2017, Dasgupta independently released his first audio short film titled 'Headphone.' This success led to the creation of various other audio short films, including 'EKTUKU CHOYA,' 'BRISHTI SHONA JAY,' 'DUI EKKE DUI,' and 'HOTTEST GUY IN THE COLLEGE,' all of which received positive responses from the audience.

The breakthrough for 'KOTHOK' came with their independent short film 'PREY' in 2020, which received an official nomination at the Lift-Off International film festival 2021 and Lift-Off First-Time Filmmaker Seasons at Pinewood Studios, United Kingdom, also in 2021. These achievements established 'KOTHOK' as a notable Bengali independent film and arts production house in Eastern India, known for creating films and arts with limited budgets.

Aside from short films, Dasgupta has also worked on micro and mini-short films such as 'DONOR,' 'FELONY' in 2019, 'FOR SALE,' 'PREY' in 2020, and most recently, in 2021, 'WAITING ROOM' - a political satire short film. His upcoming projects in 2023 include 'CARPE DIEM' and 'INTERNAL,' with one of them holding significant importance. Additionally, 'Finding the Gold Within' is another film project that Dasgupta will be directing and producing.

Through his diverse artistic pursuits and independent productions, Soumadeep Dasgupta has established himself as a multi-talented filmmaker and artist, continuously exploring unique themes and delivering thought-provoking content to his audience.
