Julia was born in Auckland, New Zealand to former photographer Paul Vahry. Her Mother Jennifer was one of the first women to complete Outward Bound in the 1970s. She is the Great Grandaughter of John Joseph Dougall, the 30th Mayor of Christchurch and former owner of the home belonging to the leader of New Zealand's women's suffrage campaign, Kate Sheppard. Julia is a former police officer and is based between Ireland and New Zealand having studied at the leading screen acting school Bow Street Academy in Dublin. In addition to acting, Julia has two children and is engaged to New Zealand Director and Writer James Boddy.
