Assassins Run (2013) is a surprising blend of gritty action and balletic flair, anchored by Sofya Skya’s captivating performance as Maya, a ballerina turned avenger. Her fluid, dance-infused fight scenes—dubbed 'ballerina-fu'—bring a fresh twist to the genre, even if the plot stumbles into familiar territory with Russian mafia clichés. Christian Slater’s brief role as Michael adds early intrigue, but the film’s deceptive marketing, hyping him as a combat-ready lead, feels like a bait-and-switch. Visually striking with solid cinematography, it falters with a predictable script and uneven pacing. Still, Skya’s multi-talented presence—acting, co-directing, and singing—makes it a quirky, entertaining B-movie ride. Worth a watch for its novel spin on action.
