Isis Rising: A Missed Opportunity in Mythological Horror 20.04.2025, 22:41 by Tim
Isis Rising: Curse of the Lady Mummy is a low-budget horror film that attempts to mix ancient Egyptian mythology with modern-day horror, but unfortunately falls flat in nearly every department. Directed by Lisa Palenica, the film follows a group of university students who accidentally awaken an ancient mummy, the goddess Isis, and must face the consequences.
The concept itself has potential — Egyptian lore is rich and mysterious, and the idea of a vengeful goddess returning to life could have led to some thrilling moments. However, the execution is severely lacking. The script is thin and full of clichés, with stilted dialogue and characters that feel more like stereotypes than real people.
The acting ranges from wooden to unintentionally hilarious, and the special effects are rudimentary at best. Isis, who should be a powerful and terrifying presence, comes across more like a cosplay character than a fearsome deity. The film's pacing is sluggish, and the attempts at horror fail to create any genuine tension or fear.
There are a few unintentionally funny moments that might appeal to fans of so-bad-its-good cinema, but overall, Isis Rising struggles to rise above its flaws. Its a movie that might entertain on a very late night with friends and snacks, but don’t go in expecting anything close to quality horror or mythology.
