One Week (1920) Plot: The silent short comedy begins with a newlywed couple (Buster Keaton and Sybil Seely) receiving a "build-it-yourself" kit house and a plot of land as a wedding gift. The house, supposedly simple to assemble in "one week" using numbered crates, is sabotaged when a jealous, rejected suitor secretly switches the numbers on the boxes. The rest of the film chronicles Keaton's disastrous attempts to follow the resulting nonsensical blueprint, which leads to a wildly abstract and structurally impossible house with a door on the second floor, a revolving kitchen sink on the exterior, and walls that rotate. The couple then endures a tumultuous housewarming that includes a storm spinning the house on its foundation. Their final misfortune occurs when they realize they built the house on the wrong plot of land and, while trying to move it on rollers, it gets stuck directly on a set of railroad tracks. After narrowly missing one train, a second train immediately appears from the opposite direction and utterly demolishes the house. The groom calmly places a "For Sale" sign and the assembly instructions on the pile of rubble and walks off with his bride.
