Prison Break (1938) (also known as Walls of San Quentin)
Plot: Joaquin Shannon, an innocent tuna boat skipper, takes the blame for a murder to protect his future brother-in-law, who he mistakenly believes is the killer. Sentenced to prison, Joaquin attempts to serve his time quietly to ensure a quick parole so he can marry his girlfriend, Jean Fenderson. However, inside, he is constantly antagonized and framed by a tough convict named Red Kincaid, who is, in fact, the real murderer. These altercations cause Joaquin to fail his parole. After he helps thwart an armed prison escape led by Red, he is finally released. However, his criminal record makes it impossible for him to find legitimate work. He unwittingly becomes entangled in a scheme to smuggle an escaped convict—who turns out to be Red—out of the country. When Red's accomplice reveals the truth before dying, Joaquin fights Red to the death to clear his name and finally be free of his troubled past.
