Swamp Fire (1946) Plot: World War II veteran and former U.S. Coast Guard bar pilot Johnny Duval returns home to the bayous of Louisiana haunted by guilt and stress from a wartime experience where a destroyer escort under his command was torpedoed, resulting in a heavy loss of life. Blaming himself, Johnny is reluctant to resume his piloting duties. While he works to regain his confidence, he is caught in a complicated rivalry involving local hot-head Mike Kalavich (a rival for his fiancé, Toni Rousseau, and his old river duties) and the arrival of a manipulative, wealthy city girl, Janet Hilton. Janet's father has recently bought up swamp land, posting "no hunting or fishing" signs that threaten the livelihoods and culture of the local Cajuns, leading to conflict. The drama culminates with Johnny overcoming his psychological trauma and battling his rival in the Louisiana Delta.
