The High Sign (1921)
Plot: A penniless drifter (Buster Keaton) arrives in town and cons his way into a job at an amusement park's shooting gallery by rigging an elaborate mechanical contraption to fake his marksmanship. His impressive, albeit false, reputation as an expert shot quickly earns him two contradictory contracts: he is hired by the criminal gang, "The Blinking Buzzards" (whose secret signal gives the film its title), to assassinate a wealthy man, and he is simultaneously hired by that very same man to act as his personal bodyguard. The film climaxes in a frantic, acrobatic chase sequence through the victim's house, which is filled with an ingenious network of trapdoors, secret passages, and moving walls designed to foil assassins.
