A Tattered Web (1971)
Plot: Veteran police detective Ed Stagg becomes distraught when he discovers his son-in-law, Steve Butler, is cheating on his daughter, Tina. Motivated by an overprotective desire to shield Tina from the pain of her husband's infidelity, Ed confronts Steve's mistress, Louise Campbell. During the confrontation, the argument turns physical, and Ed accidentally pushes Louise, causing her to hit her head and die. Stunned, the detective decides to cover up his crime. Ironically, Ed and his partner are assigned to the murder case. As suspicion begins to fall on his son-in-law, Ed uses his position to divert the investigation and attempts a morally bankrupt solution: framing a local vagrant (who has already confessed to a separate murder) for Louise's death to protect himself and his daughter. The film then follows Ed's desperate attempts to keep his cover-up from unraveling.
